Ancient Chaos Unleashes Debut Self-Titled EP
Native Howl members form side project and release debut self-titled EP.
Members of the Sumerian Records signed metal act The Native Howl, Mark Chandler (bass) and Zach Bolling (drums), just debuted their new side project Ancient Chaos. The new duo released their self-titled EP on March 28th.

Hailing from Michigan, Ancient Chaos seeks to summon the destruction of old-school metal—drawing inspiration from the all-time greats of the ’70s and ‘80s while maintaining the clarity of modern production. The multi-instrumentalist duo covers all aspects of their sound with Mark Chandler on vocals, guitar, and bass, while Zach Bolling is on guitar and drums.
The intro track Cosmos Awaken takes a peaceful, folk-influenced, clean guitar sound while orchestral strings fill in the background—setting a gentle tone for the start of the album that leaves the listener anticipating the onset of brutality that follows for the next 5 songs. Tracks like Vulture’s Eye take a faster, thrashing pace while explosive screams take the forefront and destructive guitar chugs create a hard-hitting instrumental sound. Ancient Chaos showcases a brutally heavy sound that verges on death metal from the first track before shifting more into a sound that seems to blend power metal, ’80s thrash, and classic heavy metal with a more melodic and grandiose tone.
Ancient Chaos expertly utilize brutal instrumentals alongside singing and melodic soaring leads to create a sound that utilizes juxtaposition of melody and heaviness in a way that keeps their sound wildly interesting and exciting throughout the 6 song EP.
