Song Review: Horizons Demise “Self-Betrayer” | The Metalverse

Wiltshire metalcore act Horizons Demise just released their newest single “Self-Betrayer” on January 26th.

The track starts with distant lofi guitar and drums that soon burst into full volume metal destruction with booming low end chugging and bright guitar leads filling in the full scope of sound. Soon, explosive screaming and growling are followed by grooving punk-esque drum beats. In a sudden downtempo breakdown, Horizons Demise shows an even more brutal side of their sound.

After a rapid change of dynamics, the band bursts into soaring vocal hooks, ushering in a sense of melody alongside the song’s chorus while expertly complimenting the overall dark and intense sound. Clocking in at just over 5 minutes, “Self-Betrayer” takes listeners on a journey through metalcore, deathcore, punk, and down-tempo destruction. With a mix of a modern and well-produced sound and the charm of nostalgic 2000s or even MySpace era deathcore, “Self-Betrayer” is an impressive and exciting showcase of brutal metal while still staying true to the melodic intricacies of current metalcore.
