Song Review: "Rizen" - Gillsaw
Fresh California act Gillsaw just released their debut single "Rizen" on January 10th. The track starts with a sample of demonic vocals, distant phasers, and a distant lofi effect over most of the mix, creating a black metal-esque sound. Created by musician Jole Gills, Gillsaw soon establishes a hectic and experimental sound, as explosive chugging and powerful cymbal hits create a dramatically heavy sound while sampled vocals, electronic effects, and booming snare hits further experimental elements.
Clocking in at just under 4 minutes, "Rizen" creates an intensely dark and atmospheric soundscape that builds an off-putting psychological horror-reminiscent sound that is truly unique. Gillsaw takes listeners on a fierce journey through ambient atmospheres in a way that seeks deep emotional responses. Mixing a modern experimental sound with classic heavy metal and black metal production, "Rizen" will appeal to fans of psychedelic, experimental, and black metal.
